Financial Aid

Scholarships and grants are aid you never have to pay back. Grants are typically need-based and come from the federal government, state governments, and UNH itself — start with the FAFSA to determine your eligibility. Scholarships are more often merit-based, awarded not just for grades but for leadership, service, research, and other areas of distinction, through UNH's schools and colleges as well as outside sources.

Work-study provides on- and off-campus job opportunities, funded by federal aid, for both undergraduate and graduate students.

The majority of students who apply to UNH are eligible for federal student loans, which generally offer lower interest rates and more flexible repayment than private loans. Undergraduates also have access to Parent PLUS and private loan options, and graduate and professional students have access to additional loan programs. Be sure to understand the terms of any loan before you borrow.

Generally, the graduate application for admission with its required supporting documents serves as the application for new graduate students for the scholarship and assistantship programs available. However, some departments have separate applications. Students are advised to contact individual departments for more information on any specific aid forms. Appointments are normally for one academic year and may be renewed provided that funds are available and that the student's academic and professional performance is satisfactory.
