After the enrollment deposit deadline, deposits are non-refundable. Please contact Admissions at admissions@unh.edu for questions.

Deferrals may be requested for up to one year. If you were originally admitted for fall, please use this Fall Deferral Request form. If you were originally admitted for spring, please use this Spring Deferral Request form. Should you have any questions, please contact Admissions at admissions@unh.edu or (603) 862-1360.

• With few exceptions, UNH will not approve deferral requests for students to complete college coursework elsewhere or for a post-graduate year.
• If you know you will be deferring your admission, you do not need to send in an enrollment deposit now; however, if there is a chance your plans may change, an enrollment deposit must be received by May 1 to guarantee fall semester entry.
• If a deferral is approved, a form to reinstate admission for the future semester will be sent with the approval letter. Please follow the instructions provided on that form.
• Students who defer for a year must remember to complete the FAFSA by March 1 of the year they will be enrolling to be considered for need-based financial aid.
• Students who defer for only one semester will have their financial aid package modified accordingly.

Full-time undergraduate first-year and transfer students will be required to live on campus in university housing per UNH's 2-year Live-On Requirement to foster a sense of belonging to the university community where students will be supported academically, personally and socially. 

Students who wish to request an exemption from UNH's Live-On Requirement, will need to submit an exemption request to UNH's Housing and Residential Life Office. By confirming your enrollment, you have read and agree to abide by the Live-On Requirement established for new undergraduate students.

Housing

Complete your on-campus housing application. Transfer students under the age of 21 are required to live on campus (an exemption based on pre-approved reasons can be requested). Transfer students who are not required to live on campus can apply for housing and be offered space on an as-available basis. Off-campus housing may be available for students not required to live on campus.

If you're starting in fall

• Register for June Transfer Orientation. If you're undeclared in the College of Liberal Arts, or were accepted or admitted to any major after June Orientation, follow up directly with the transfer advising contact for your major.
• Complete your required health forms and your UNH Student Health Benefit Plan enrollment or waiver by June 30.
• Submit your final transcript to the Admissions Office by July 15. You're admitted pending satisfactory completion of any ongoing coursework — your admission may be suspended if we don't receive it on time or your academic performance is unsatisfactory. Automatic if you're enrolled through UNH Continuing Education, the Thompson School of Applied Science, or UNH Manchester.
• Submit your NH residency statement electronically by July 15 to be eligible for the in-state tuition benefit.
• Review parking permit options if applicable.

If you're starting in spring

• Registration for January Orientation opens through New Student and Family Programs.
• An academic advisor will contact you in December to set up a course-registration appointment — check both your UNH email and the email on your application. If you haven't connected by mid-December, reach out to a transfer advising contact for your major (advisers generally can't meet before December).
• Complete your required health forms and Student Health Benefit Plan enrollment or waiver.
• Submit your final transcript by Jan. 10.
• Review parking permit options if applicable.

Withdraw & refund (transfer students only)

Requests for withdrawal must be submitted in writing to admissions@unh.edu.

• On or before May 1: $600
• May 2–May 31: $300
• June 1–July 1: $50
• After July 1: no refund

After confirming enrollment

You'll receive an email from the Office of International Students and Scholars on how to officially request your visa documentation (Certificate of Eligibility I-20 or DS-2019). You'll be asked to provide:

• Copy of admission decision letter
• Copy of passport biographic page
• Foreign address information
• Copy of supporting financial documents

Visa

Apply for your visa as early as possible. As an international student coming to the U.S. to study, you'll be required to obtain a visa prior to traveling abroad. Canadian students don't need a visa but must present the Certificate of Eligibility (I-20 or DS-2019) and declare student status at the U.S. port of entry.

The Office of International Students and Scholars will send you tips and information about getting your visa, orientation, health insurance, getting to campus, and more.

Required documents

• Submit your final transcripts — official high school diploma or general equivalency diploma — to the Undergraduate Admissions Office by July 1: UNH Undergraduate Admissions, Smith Hall, 3 Garrison Ave., Durham, NH 03824, USA.
• Complete the required medical and immunization forms (check your email for details).
  • Enroll in the Student Health Benefits Plan — mandatory for international students.
  • Complete the medical immunization forms.
• Pay your tuition bill through Webcat (unless you've set up a monthly payment plan).

Orientation

Get ready for international student orientation — mandatory for all new international students (undergraduate, exchange, graduate, and transfer) to learn about immigration rights and responsibilities, cultural adjustment, and academic expectations.

Note: Attendance at First-Year Student Orientation in June is optional for undergraduates. If you choose to attend it, you'll still be required to attend International Student Orientation in August.

Advising & registration

Housing

Apply for on-campus housing or learn about off-campus housing. Housing is offered to readmitted students as space is available, first-come, first-served.

Transfer credit & transcripts

To receive transfer credit for coursework completed since leaving UNH, send an official transcript to the Office of Admissions. If you've completed or are currently enrolled in UNH coursework through Continuing Education at Durham or Manchester, we'll automatically receive your final transcripts. For non-UNH coursework, an "Evaluation of Transfer Credits" form will be completed and forwarded to your college dean. Credit won't be awarded for coursework completed during the semester following an academic suspension.

Majors

You've been readmitted to a specific major or undeclared status within a college division. You're guaranteed a space as long as you meet departmental standards for continuation. Changing majors requires approval from the appropriate college dean and department chairperson — not all change requests can be honored.

Note: readmitted students don't submit an enrollment deposit and don't have an orientation requirement — these steps from the general checklist don't apply to this group.
