Tuition
Tuition is charged based on residency status and enrollment. Graduate tuition rates are based on full-time registration (9–16 credits); students who register for fewer than 9 credits are charged per credit hour. Some majors and programs charge program-specific rates — see below.
Graduate students are permitted to enroll for more than 16 credits upon approval of their college or school dean. Students carrying more than their maximum allotted credits after the add/drop period will be billed a per-credit fee for each credit above the maximum. Tuition waivers awarded with assistantships and scholarships do not cover charges for tuition overload.
Tuition insurance in the event of medical withdrawal due to illness, injury or psychological conditions may be available through GradGuard's Tuition Protection Plan. Please visit their website for eligibility and coverage details.

Mandatory fees
Mandatory fees are charged to all graduate students enrolled in 5 or more credit hours, split into two tiers: 9–16 credits and 5–8 credits. Students registered for 4 credits or fewer are not charged mandatory fees but are still charged a technology fee. The technology fee is listed separately on student bills and applies to all UNH students, regardless of credit load.
A $50 registration fee is charged to graduate students who register for fewer than 9 credits.
Courses taken by graduate students for audit are charged at the same rate as for-credit courses.
The services and facilities supported by mandatory fees are available to all students. They are not charged based on the extent of students' usage of the facilities or services supported by the fees. For a listing of current fee rates, see the tables below.
Students who withdraw or drop to part-time after classes begin may be eligible for a full or partial refund of fees based on the date of withdrawal or drop to part-time status (see Withdrawal from the University or Change to Part-Time Status for more information).

Student Activity Fee
Overseen and collected by the Student Senate through the Student Activity Fee Committee (SAFC), provides support for the following organizations and services:

Health & Wellness
Health & Wellness provides comprehensive, student-focused, primary medical care, laboratory testing, radiology, and pharmacy services. During the regular academic year, the clinical staff consist of board-certified physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and medical assistants who have experience working with adolescents and young adults and are committed to prevention and holistic care. The Office of Living Well Services presents educational workshops, offers support groups, and facilitates ongoing educational groups on a variety of physical and emotional health issues. The SHARPP Center
The SHARPP Center's direct services include a 24-hour telephone helpline, online web chat and text services, crisis counseling, accompaniment to hospitals, information and advocacy related to the criminal justice and University judicial systems/Title IX, as well as academic interventions. In addition, SHARPP's prevention programs and trainings provide education for students, faculty, and staff on topics related to consent, healthy relationships, rape culture, bystander intervention, IPV, and more. Prevention programs are facilitated by trained violence prevention educators and student community educators. Trainings are delivered to students in a wide variety of settings (residential halls, academic classrooms, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Athletics, Student Organizations, etc.). Psychology and Counseling Services
Psychology and Counseling Services is a campus resource whose services are designed to enhance students' ability to fully benefit from the University environment and academic experience. Services include counseling and therapy for students who may be experiencing situational or ongoing psychological difficulties, providing programming to meet the developmental needs of the student population, and encouraging a University atmosphere conducive to personal and intellectual growth and psychological well-being. The Memorial Union Building
The Memorial Union Building (MUB) provides opportunities for student involvement and offers space for programs, meetings, and study, as well as for major public events, movies, and other entertainment. A complete listing of programs, services, and events can be found on the MUB website.
Student Recreation
Campus Recreation provides programs and facilities to support an active lifestyle. Programs include Group Exercise, Intramural Sports, Aquatics, Outdoor Adventures, Instructional Programs and Sports Clubs. Facilities include Hamel Recreation Center (HRC), Swasey Indoor Pool, Outdoor Pool, Tennis Courts and other outdoor fields. Check out campusrec.unh.edu for more information.
Whittemore Center
The Whittemore Center is a multi-purpose arena located on the UNH Durham campus. The arena is home to the UNH Wildcats Hockey and is used for programming such as open ice times as well. The University dedicated the arena to Frederick B. Whittemore and his family on May 5, 1996, in recognition of their long history of service to the state of New Hampshire and the University. Whittemore's father, Laurence Whittemore, served as a trustee of the University System of New Hampshire from 1944 to 1960, and president of the board from 1954 to 1960. A visionary and philanthropist, Frederick Whittemore is a founding director of the UNH Foundation. The Whittemore Family Foundation's generous contribution to this facility exemplifies the family's ongoing commitment to education through support for academic programs and student life.

Cat's Cache
Cat's Cache is an optional declining balance account used for meals, vending machines, laundry, bookstore, MUB, and many downtown Durham businesses. The account carries forward from semester to semester.
New Admit Fee
New students pay a one time fee of $400 that supports first-year experience, transfer programming and other initiatives that help new students transition to the University.
Health insurance
Health Insurance Fee: UNH has a health insurance requirement as a condition of enrollment for all full-time (9 or more credits per traditional semester) degree students. Students will have the option of waiving the requirement by presenting proof of adequate insurance through another plan. Students who want to waive out of the plan are required to complete the enrollment/waiver form and should do so before the start of classes.
The University's Student Health Benefits Plan cost for 2026/2027 is $2,554.00 per year ($1,277.00 per semester).

- Continuous Enrollment Fee - $200: Unless a leave of absence is granted, graduate students are required to maintain continuous enrollment each semester of the academic year until their degree is formally awarded by registering for course credits, research, or continuing enrollment.
